Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of Minnesota youth? Join a statewide cohort of passionate changemakers as an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow with the Minnesota Alliance With Youth. As a Promise Fellow, you’ll spend the school year supporting up to 30 students in grades 6–12, helping them overcome barriers and prepare for a successful future.

As a Promise Fellow, you’ll have the opportunity to close the graduation gap by learning how to understand and influence the systems that impact student success. You'll also amplify youth voice through training in Motivational Interviewing, empowering students with autonomy and choice. Throughout your service, you'll explore your own strengths, clarify your personal and professional goals, and uncover your unique leadership style. Most importantly, you'll develop valuable leadership skills that will serve you throughout your career in education, youth development, and beyond.

Your Role Will Include:

Providing one-on-one and small group support to help students improve in three key areas: attendance, engagement, and course performance.

  • Serve as a caring adult connection and mentor.
  • Provide attendance coaching and follow-up with families.
  • Support strategies to help students attend and stay engaged in school.
  • Coordinate school-based enrichment programs (e.g., mentoring, book clubs, youth leadership groups).
  • Connect youth with community resources and civic engagement opportunities.
  • Help students set academic goals and support them before, during, and after school.
  • Work with students to improve performance and build confidence in their learning.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated maturity, responsibility, and a strong service mindset, with a genuine interest in supporting and working with children.
  • Experience working with diverse populations is a plus.
  • Must be 18 years or older by August 16, 2025.
  • Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
  • Not have served four or more prior AmeriCorps State/National terms.
  • Pass a National Service Criminal History Background Check (includes FBI, state, and sex offender checks).

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary: 40 hrs/week: $1,236 twice/month, 30 hrs/week: $1,067 twice/month, 25 hrs/week: $800 twice/month. 
  • AmeriCorps Education Award (Can be used for eligible student loans or future education): $7,395 for 40 hrs/week, $5,176.50 for 30 hrs/week, $3,697.50 for 25 hrs/week.
  • Health and dental insurance.
  • Student loan forbearance (qualified federal loans).
  • Child care assistance (if eligible).
  • AmeriCoach life coach program.
  • TAP transportation card (Metro area only).
  • Support in applying for SNAP benefits.

Location & Shift Times:

  • Orono Schools Campus. 
  • FT, Straight Shift, 8 AM - 4 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • Program Dates: August 16, 2025 - June 30, 2025 with the option of extending through the summer. 
  • Note: Initial interview will be with Orono Public Schools, but Minnesota Alliance for Youth is the official hiring body and they will conduct final interviews.
